1.1 - Introduction
This document is intended as a manual for the xEdit tool created by ElminsterAU. This manual contains a tour of xEdit, a lengthy FAQ/Navigator and several Chapters of detailed instructions on how you can utilize the varied functions of xEdit successfully to improve your gaming experience.
The questions answered and processes described herein are intended to help both mod-users and mod-authors to improve the quality, standardization and conformity of Bethesda mods. If you utilize any number of mods in your game or if you write mods you can use xEdit to resolve potential conflicts, clean mods, and smoothen the loading process. With tens of thousands of mods already created and thousands more on the way, it has become essential to standardize mod delivery and reduce conflicts wherever possible.
1.2 - About This Document
This document presumes a basic understanding of what "Mods" are, and how to install them on your system. This manual is not a guide on how to build mods, and the use of xEdit for extensive mod changes is discouraged for most users that's what the various Creation Kits (GECK, CK, CK64, FO4CK) were built for.
This document is a constant work in progress, Sharlikan is often adding more information. Between 2012 and 2018 Zilav, Hlp, and Sharlikan took over xEdit to improve existing features and add new features. ElminsterAU, the original author has since returned and is working with Zilav, Hlp, and Sharlikan to vastly enhance the quality of xEdit for now and the years to come.
This site will be replacing the Bethesda Wiki page since too many security measures (captcha) are in place that make editing the page cumbersome. Most of the TES5Edit Wiki information from the CK Wiki is repeated in these docs. Once I am completely finished, I will add more links to direct people to these pages instead.
All feedback and comments about this guide should be directed to Sharlikran on the xEdit Discord in the "docs" channel:
1.3 - Resources for users and mod authors
The following links to self help resources are provided because it would not be possible to recreate the extensive amount of information for every supported game that is available from all these resources.
